Memento Mori Skull Drop Earring
From our Rare Materials Collection, our hand-carved ivory skull and pearl drop earring. Earring measures 1 1/4 inches long. Intricately carved skull is under 1/2 inch wide. Synthetic Ruby top, and pink tone Freshwater pearl drop. Beautiful earring! The scull represents mortality, and was supposed to encourage virtuous living--Memento Mori--the Latin phrase for Remember You Shall Die. Scull jewelry was also worn in Victorian times as Mourning Jewelry, during the period of bereavement. Our ivory is US certified fossil ivory from ancient Mammoth deposits.
